Step 1 of 4
PGT-A (Pre-implantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy) is a screening tool used to select embryos for transfer, which improves IVF outcomes.
Selecting embryos with a normal chromosome number (euploid) is associated with higher pregnancy rates and lower miscarriage rates when compared to untested embryo transfer.
Uniformly abnormal chromosome number (aneuploid) embryos have no pregnancy potential.
Mosaic embryos display a mixture of normal chromosome number (Euploid) and abnormal chromosome number (Aneuploid).
As such, Mosaic Embryo Transfer is associated with a lower pregnancy rate and a higher miscarriage rate than euploid embryo transfer.
Low Level (<40% abnormal) mosaic embryos offer the possibility of a healthy livebirth, in cases where there are no available euploid embryos for transfer.
The overwhelming majority of ongoing pregnancies and livebirths following mosaic embryo transfer have been associated with healthy outcomes similar to euploid embryo transfer.
There are rare cases (< 1%) where throughout pregnancy and after birth, a child displays the same Mosaicism (mixture of normal and abnormal chromosome number) as what was detected in the embryo biopsy.
Where persistent mosaicism (mixture of normal and abnormal chromosome number) is detected during pregnancy, it may lead to advice to consider termination of the pregnancy.
Persistent mosaicism (mixture of normal and abnormal chromosome number) in a liveborn child could result in altered function which is impossible to accurately predict.
As such, neither Vitalab, nor the advising genetic counsellor can be held accountable for any pregnancy outcomes resulting from a decision to transfer a mosaic embryo.
I/ We understand that the genetic testing of embryos is an embryo selection tool, for improving IVF outcomes. I / We have had the opportunity to discuss all our questions and concerns regarding the transfer of a Mosaic Embryo with my treating doctor. I/we have been offered the opportunity to discuss Mosaic Embryo Transfer and the range of possible outcomes specific to the embryo selected for this transfer, with a genetic counsellor. I / We understand the limitations of Mosaic Embryo Transfer, specifically lower pregnancy rates and higher miscarriage rates. I / We are aware of the remote possibility (< 1%) of a pregnancy and child affected by a detectable persistent chromosomal abnormality following a Mosaic Embryo Transfer. I / We accept this risk entirely and any outcomes which may arise as a result thereof. I / We also understand the benefits outlined, and on the balance of the presented evidence, feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I / We would like to proceed with the transfer of a Mosaic (Mixture of normal and abnormal chromosome number) Embryo. I / We understand that Vitalab cannot accept any responsibility for outcomes arising from Mosaic Embryo Transfer.
