Could you help a

A first guide

Who might be able to become a surrogate?

Every person is assessed individually. These are the starting requirements, not a promise of eligibility.

01

21 to 39 years old

You must be at least 21 and not older than 39 when you begin the process.

02

A child of your own

You should have given birth to and be caring for a living child of your own.

03

Well enough to carry

A medical assessment will help determine whether pregnancy is safe for you and a baby.

We also consider your emotional readiness, support network and ability to understand the medical, practical and legal implications. Vitalab will explain each step clearly.

What the journey can look like

Clarity before commitment.

There is no pressure to move forward. The first step is simply understanding whether this kind of gift feels right for you and your family.

01

Start with a conversation

Ask for information privately. We will listen to your reasons, answer initial questions and explain what happens next.

02

Meet the clinical team

If you choose to continue, you will be guided through medical screening and the counselling conversations that protect everyone involved.

03

Decide with support

You remain in control of your decision. Independent legal guidance and the required High Court process form part of a South African surrogacy arrangement.

The support around you

Medically careful.
Emotionally aware.

Our fertility specialists, nurses and counsellors work together so you can ask questions, understand your options and make an informed decision at your own pace.

  • Clear information before any decision
  • Medical and counselling assessments
  • Respect for your privacy and autonomy

A note on motivation

This is not a paid opportunity.

South African law does not allow commercial surrogacy. Reasonable, documented expenses may be addressed within the legal agreement, but the heart of the decision should be the desire to help another family.

Vitalab provides medical and fertility care. We are not attorneys, and independent legal advice is part of the process.

If this feels like something you could hold in your heart
