Your Fertility Journey,
Coordinated Around You
International fertility treatment involves more than the medical treatment itself. There are consultations to arrange, investigations to complete, medication to organise and travel to plan.
Our approach is designed to coordinate as much as possible before you arrive in South Africa.
Your journey can begin from home with a virtual consultation with one of our fertility specialists.
Depending on your individual circumstances and treatment plan, investigations such as blood tests, a hysterosalpingogram (HSG), semen analysis and scans may be arranged in your home country.
Care That Connects
Across Borders
Vitalab can work with your local gynaecologist or OBGYN to ensure the information and scan reports required by your treating team are available.
Once your treatment plan has been confirmed, our team will guide you through the next steps and help you prepare for your time in South Africa.
How Our International
Patient Process Works
From your first consultation to your arrival in South Africa, we help coordinate the steps involved in your treatment journey.
Start With a
Virtual Consultation
Your fertility journey can begin without travelling to South Africa.
An initial consultation can be conducted virtually via Zoom with one of our specialist doctors. During this consultation, your medical history and fertility journey will be discussed and any appropriate investigations can be planned.
Where possible, these investigations can be completed in your home country before you travel.
The exact investigations required will depend on your individual circumstances.

Wherever your journey begins, our team works with you to coordinate the next steps before you travel.
Support From Consultation to Treatment
Once your initial consultation and investigations are underway, our team will help coordinate the practical steps involved in preparing for your treatment at Vitalab.
Your Dedicated International

Confirm Your
Treatment Plan
Once your investigations have been reviewed and your treatment programme has been confirmed, you will receive a detailed cost analysis for your prescribed treatment plan.
Arranging Your Medication
Medication can generally be arranged in one of two ways:
- Medication can be obtained in your home country where appropriate.
- Alternatively, medication may be purchased from Vitalab, with courier collection and delivery arranged by the patient.
Your nurse coordinator will guide you regarding the medication required for your individual treatment plan.
Coordinate Your Care
With Your Local OBGYN
One of the ways we help international patients reduce unnecessary travel is by working closely with their local healthcare team.
Vitalab specialists can collaborate with your local gynaecologist or OBGYN regarding investigations and scans required during your treatment cycle.
Scans in Your Home Country
Where scans are performed in your home country, we can advise your local healthcare provider on the information required in the scan report.
This allows your Vitalab team to review the relevant information remotely and coordinate your treatment as efficiently as possible.
Where clinically appropriate, patients may be able to complete much of their preparation in their home country before travelling to South Africa.
Understanding
Your Treatment Matters.
We recognise that English may not be the first or preferred language for many of our international patients.
Fertility treatment involves medical and technical information, including terminology relating to IVF, embryology, genetics, PGT-A, medication, procedures, risks and consent.
Even if you are comfortable communicating in English in everyday situations, you may find some medical information more difficult to understand.
Professional interpreter support
If English is not your first or preferred language, we encourage you to consider professional interpreter support during your consultations.
Using an interpreter is not an indication that you cannot communicate in English. It is simply an additional support to help ensure that you understand the information provided, have the opportunity to ask questions and can make informed decisions about your care.
Please let us know in advance if you would benefit from interpreter support.

Before your consultation, you will be asked to provide relevant medical information to help your doctor understand your fertility history.
